Florida is a strange place. Everything is bleached out by the sun, like California, but the difference is that the air is stickier and swampier (Karen Russell is interested in this bizarre place; see Swamplandia!). Within minutes you could travel from the wealthiest echelons of Palm Beach, where the grand homes are dripping with money and style and surrounded by plants, and then end up in a parking lot at the Dunkin’ Donuts across the street from a “pain clinic.” Next weekend, we’re going to Palm Beach. It’s always a trip.
